How to get an API key (beginner's guide)
You don't need any technical skills. Note: a monthly subscription like ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro does not include an API key. API keys come from each company's developer website and are pay-as-you-go — a $5 top-up usually lasts a long time.
- Sign up and add credit: open the link for your chosen company below, create a free account and add a small balance (for example $5).
- Create your key: click "Create new key" (or "Create API key"), give it any name, and copy the long code it shows you. Some sites only show it once, so keep it safe.
- Paste and connect: paste the key into that company's card at the top of this page and press Connect, then press "Use this model".

Do I need an API key to use the AI tools?
No. Every AI tool works for free out of the box using our default model. Connecting a key is entirely optional.
Why would I connect my own key?
It lets our tools run on your favourite frontier model — Claude, GPT, Grok or DeepSeek — which can give deeper reasoning and longer answers, without sharing limits with other visitors.
Will my ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro subscription work here?
No. Those subscriptions only cover the companies' own chat apps. API keys are a separate pay-as-you-go service from each company's developer website.
Where is my key stored? Is it safe?
Your key is saved only in your own browser on your device. Summit Capital News never saves it in our systems; it is passed through securely over HTTPS only at the moment you run a request.
How much does it cost?
You pay your AI provider directly, usually a fraction of a cent per question. A small $5 top-up typically lasts a long time for everyday market research.
Does Summit Capital News charge a subscription or sell AI credits?
No. We never charge a monthly AI subscription, sell token packs or add a markup. With Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) you pay Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI or DeepSeek directly at their wholesale developer API prices — usually far cheaper than a $20/month chat subscription for everyday research.
How do I remove or change my key?
Press Disconnect on that company's card, or choose "Switch back to Free Instant Access". The key is removed from your browser immediately.
Which key do I need for the video and image generators?
The AI Video Generator and AI Image Generator use a fal.ai key. The other four companies power the text-based AI tools.
