How to trade Bank of England days
Sterling and short-sterling futures move on two things: the Bank Rate decision itself and the vote split published in the same release. A held rate with a three-way split reads far more dovish than a unanimous hold, so the minutes often matter more than the headline. On Monetary Policy Report meetings the forecast for inflation two and three years out, plus the Governor's press conference, tends to drive the second leg of the move. Gilt yields and the GBP curve usually settle only after the press conference ends.
