With big tech earnings reports released yesterday, in pre-market trading, Alphabet GOOGL shares are around 9% down and Microsoft is around 3% up in pre-market at the time of writing, so quite a mixed one. We will have to wait till the US cash open to see how their shares trade when the market opens. Not just their shares, but how the overall tech sector and AI trade as a whole reacts to the earnings reports.
Before the US cash open, we have one thing in the way before then for a possible green or red light for risk appetite: PCE price consumer expenditure data. As we know with high-impact news catalysts, they can come in whichever way away from analyst expectations and shock the market and send it in either direction. But with such excitement behind the AI trade, it could be hotter than expected (red light), in line with analyst expectations (green light), or cooler than expected inflation data (green light).
In markets, we only speak within scenarios as anything could happen. We could even get slightly hotter than expected inflation and the tech trade still rallies, shrugging off current inflation levels for the hopes of future enterprise on a longer-term outlook. Plus, remember inflation has been higher than desired and above target since 2021 post-pandemic from supply chain issues. Then the Ukraine war came in 2022 and pushed it even higher from energy prices, and the AI LLM industry really took off after the rise of the ChatGPT LLM large language model chatbot.
So the point is that this AI industry emerged in a high inflationary environment, so also all stock market gains for AI have come in a high inflationary environment, so don't be surprised if the tech trade ignores inflation and interest rates and just looks for higher valuations. It's also been said that the middle-income American is not feeling this inflation as much as the lower-income American. So even if the lowest-income US citizens, who are feeling inflation the most, can't afford to buy more NVIDIA shares and speculate, there are plenty of people who can afford to do so.
The London morning session has been defined by a significant realignment of risk appetites, triggered by a sharp spike in US Treasury yields that has rippled through the currency and equity markets. With the 10-year yield reclaiming a position above the 5.00% mark, investors are aggressively rotating out of high-duration growth assets, leaving the technology sector vulnerable while traditional industrial and European benchmarks find fresh support. This cross-asset friction is most visible in the widening gap between the Nasdaq 100 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average, a move that is being exacerbated by a chaotic session in the energy complex.
Forex: Dollar Resurgent as Euro Tests Multi-Month Floor
The US Dollar Index has maintained its upward trajectory through the London open, currently holding at 102.274 as it leverages the tailwinds provided by rising sovereign yields. From a technical perspective, the index has successfully defended its 20-day moving average of 102.066, converting this former hurdle into a pivot for the session.
This strength is placing immense pressure on the EUR/USD, which is currently clinging to 1.11370. The proximity of this price to the 60-day swing low of 1.11132 and the 52-week low of 1.11130 cannot be overstated; a decisive break below this double-bottom structure would signal a shift into a fresh bearish regime, potentially targeting the 1.1050 level. While the pair remains below its 50-day moving average of 1.14100, the path of least resistance appears tilted to the downside, particularly as the ATR of 0.00510 suggests there is still room for daily volatility to expand.
British pound bulls are attempting to mount a defense of the 1.33120 level, though GBP/USD remains caught in a tightening range between its session high of 1.33360 and the immediate support of its 20-day moving average at 1.32870. Unlike the Euro, Sterling is currently trading above this short-term trend indicator, providing a thin layer of technical insulation against the dollar's broad-based advance. However, the 50-day moving average at 1.33920 looms overhead as a formidable barrier that has capped recent recovery attempts. If the 1.32970 session low is breached during the transition to New York, the focus will shift rapidly to the 60-day swing low of 1.31385.
The Japanese yen has entered a period of relative stagnation, with USD/JPY pinned near 157.961. The pair is essentially oscillating around its 20-day moving average of 157.936, reflecting a standoff between yen-carry trade unwinding and the fundamental pull of higher US rates. Support is clearly defined at the session low of 157.597, while the 200-day moving average at 158.540 acts as a magnetic resistance point for any renewed dollar bidding.
Further south, the AUD/USD is showing signs of intraday stabilization at 0.70350 after rebounding from the 0.70330 area. Despite a slight 0.07% gain on the day, the pair is trading well below its 50-day moving average of 0.70710, suggesting that any rallies remain corrective within a broader downtrend that began at the 0.72390 swing high.
Indices: Tech Sells Off as European Value Leads
The Nasdaq 100 has undergone a bruising start to the session, with futures sliding 1.00% to 29680.50. This move represents a significant technical breakdown, as price has sliced through the 50-day moving average of 29966.02 with high velocity. The immediate downside target is now the session low of 29482.50, but the broader 60-day swing low of 28763.75 remains the primary objective for bears if the 20-day moving average at 30266.24 continues to act as a ceiling. High sensitivity to the US 10-year yield is the clear catalyst here, as the higher discount rates directly compress the valuations of the tech heavyweights that dominate this index.
Conversely, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is the morning's standout performer, gaining 0.53% to reach 52976.00. This divergence highlights a classic rotation into value and cyclical sectors that are less sensitive to interest rate volatility. The Dow has successfully reclaimed its 50-day moving average of 52421.14 and is now within striking distance of the session high at 53051.00. If bulls can maintain momentum, the next major resistance level sits at the 60-day swing high of 54678.00.
S&P 500 futures are currently caught in the crossfire of these two extremes, trading down 0.21% at 7766.75. The index is effectively tethered to its 20-day moving average of 7783.13, suggesting a market in search of a decisive direction as it balances the tech drag against industrial strength.

European markets are significantly outperforming their American counterparts, with the DAX surging 1.06% to 25976.12. This rally has taken the German benchmark through its 50-day moving average of 25584.05, placing it on track to test the upper boundary of its 60-day range at 26618.74.
The FTSE 100 is also enjoying a positive session, rising 0.35% to 10732.25. London's blue-chip index is currently sandwiched between its 20-day moving average of 10662.71 and the 50-day average at 10704.58. A close above the session high of 10757.06 would confirm a breakout from this consolidation zone, potentially opening the door for a return to the 10959.90 swing high.
Commodities: Energy Volatility and Metal Fatigue
The energy sector is witnessing a violent decoupling of prices this morning. Natural gas has exploded 8.38% higher to reach 3.05300, a move that saw it briefly test the resistance of its 200-day moving average at 3.07280. This surge has completely bypassed the 20-day and 50-day moving averages, suggesting a momentum-driven squeeze that could target the 60-day swing high of 3.33400 if it can clear the 3.07300 session peak.
In stark contrast, Brent crude has plummeted 4.11% to 110.580, slicing through previous supports as it searches for a floor. While Brent remains above its 20-day moving average of 107.959, the sheer scale of today's drop from the 115.320 previous close suggests a shift in sentiment. WTI crude is following a similar path, down 1.15% to 101.600, though it remains firmly positioned above its 50-day moving average of 94.296.
The precious metals complex is struggling to find a footing as the dollar and yields both exert downward pressure. Spot gold is currently trading at 4038.00, down 0.34% and sitting dangerously close to the 60-day swing low of 3989.10. With gold trading well below its 20-day moving average of 4128.54, the technical posture remains decidedly bearish.
Silver is experiencing even deeper losses, falling 1.61% to 52.595. This move has pushed silver to a new 60-day low, breaching the previous floor of 52.535. The silver market is currently characterized by high volatility, with an ATR of 0.597 and a price that is severely disconnected from its 200-day moving average of 71.093, indicating a long-term downtrend that has yet to find a terminal point. Copper is likewise under pressure, down 0.77% at 6.59050, though it continues to hold above its cluster of moving averages near 6.56, suggesting that industrial demand may be providing some underlying support even as the broader commodity basket weakens.
Rates: The Five Percent Threshold Reclaimed
The move in the US 10-year Treasury yield is the primary engine behind the morning's asset price volatility. The yield has jumped 1.04% to 5.04500, a level that has significant psychological and technical weight. By moving above the 50-day moving average of 5.00150, the yield has signaled a rejection of the recent cooling trend and a return to the "higher for longer" narrative.
This ascent is currently capped by the 20-day moving average at 5.15220, which represents the next major resistance level. However, as long as the yield remains above the 5.00% pivot, it will continue to act as a magnet for dollar inflows and a significant headwind for non-yielding assets like gold and high-multiple stocks in the Nasdaq.
Crypto: Bitcoin Defends the 80,000 Handle
The digital asset market has not been immune to the risk-off sentiment pervasive in the tech sector. Bitcoin is currently trading at 80205.80, a decline of 1.64% on the session. The intraday price action saw a brief dip below the psychological 80,000 level to a session low of 79709.50, but buyers stepped in to reclaim the round-number support. Bitcoin's inability to hold near the previous close of 81539.20 suggests a period of consolidation is underway after its recent bull run.
Ethereum is exhibiting similar weakness, dropping 2.20% to 2321.34. The session range of 2293.93 to 2391.94 shows that ETH is struggling to maintain its footing as it tracks the broader weakness in the Nasdaq.
Solana has been the hardest hit among the majors, shedding 2.60% to trade at 100.31. The price is currently testing the major psychological support at 100.00, having reached a session low of 99.26. A failure to hold this level on a daily closing basis would be technically significant, as it could open the door for a retest of much deeper support levels. The lack of specific momentum indicators for the crypto complex today places the focus entirely on these horizontal price levels and their correlation with global macro drivers, particularly the US dollar's strength and the liquidity conditions dictated by the Treasury market.
Into the US Crossover
The final hours of the London session are likely to see heightened volatility as traders adjust positions ahead of the New York open. The primary level to watch remains the 1.11130 floor in EUR/USD; if this level is breached during the crossover, it could trigger a wider liquidation in risk-sensitive assets. Simultaneously, the ability of Nasdaq futures to reclaim the 29966 handle will be crucial in determining whether the morning's tech sell-off was a temporary yield-induced flush or the start of a more profound structural correction. Natural gas reaching for 3.073 and the 10-year yield maintaining its 5.045 position will provide the ultimate roadmap for the next phase of the trading day.
