More Natural Disasters for Nepal: Could This Be an Annual Thing?
With the recent adversity Nepal faced with the collapse of a glacier, now landslides, and more economic damage once again, and with climate change being a real issue, could this be every year now for places in the Himalayas? And could this coming winter bring even more surprises for the global climate?
Monsoon-Induced Floods and Landslides: Incessant rainfall across Nepal from September 24 to 28 caused widespread destruction, resulting in at least 27 deaths. Four people remain missing, and eight others were injured in these monsoon-related incidents.
Baglung District Casualties: Heavy rains triggered severe landslides that buried homes in the Baglung district. These landslides resulted in 10 fatalities while rescue operations were ongoing.

River Blockage in Chame: A flood and landslide along the Ghatte Khola river temporarily blocked the Marsyangdi River in Chame village (Manang district). This created a barrier lake that has since begun to recede as water flows more freely.
Himlung Himal Avalanche: An avalanche hit the Himlung Himal summit area in the Nar Phu region of Manang district. The disaster affected climbers and support personnel, leading to the recovery of at least four bodies.
Mustang District Mountainside Collapse: A major section of the mountainside collapsed near Lete in the Mustang District on September 27. This sent a massive volume of debris into the Kali Gandaki River and generated seismic activity that instruments initially mistook for an earthquake.
